Where Does My Energy Rise, and Where Does It Drain?
A reflection on the conditions that refill or drain energy, and why design is stronger than forcing willpower.

In the morning, I was full of motivation, but by afternoon, I suddenly did not want to do anything.
It was not that I had rested, and nothing especially hard had happened.
People often see this as weak willpower or lack of persistence.
But in reality, there is often another reason.
It is connected to the kind of energy I had been inside that day.
[Energy Is Designed Differently for Each Person]
The difference between days when I work the same amount and feel fine, and days when I feel especially drained.
That difference often comes less from how hard I worked,
and more from what environment and position I was in.
Each person has different conditions under which energy rises.
Some gain strength when they focus alone,
some switch on when they are helping someone.
Some move when they make a plan,
and some move only when they meet something their body responds to.
But most people do not really know under which conditions their energy rises,
so they just endure with willpower or blame themselves.
[There Is a Reason Energy Leaks in Certain Places]
There is a point worth looking into more closely.
It is when I know my energy is being drained but keep staying there.
Continuing to meet someone who leaves me tired afterward,
continuing to attend gatherings after which I can do nothing,
or when the body is already sending signals, but the head keeps making reasons.
"If I do not go to this kind of place, does that mean I lack social skills?"
"Maybe an opportunity could appear here."
"It might become awkward if I refuse."
Usually, two things sit beneath these thoughts.
The fear of missing something,
and the worry about how I will be seen if I say no.
When I stay somewhere even though I know it takes my energy,
it is because that place gives me a sense of protection.
But there is something I lose in exchange for that protection.
The strength to meet people my body actually responds to,
and the energy to focus on what I truly want to do.
[I Can Notice Energy-Draining Places in Advance]
The signals are clearer than expected.
When the appointment time gets closer and my body becomes heavy,
and before even meeting, I start calculating, "What can I get out of this?"
that is usually a place where energy leaks.
On the other hand, places I naturally look forward to without much thought
are usually places where energy rises.
Often, the body knows first.
The problem is that the head keeps persuading it and covering it over.
[Design Is Stronger Than Endurance]
When we want to create good results, we usually choose to push with stronger willpower.
But something else is actually more powerful.
Choosing the places where my energy naturally rises.
Inside those conditions, I begin to move without having to endure.
Rather than trying to create energy by force,
creating the conditions where energy cannot help but appear lasts much longer.
[Two Questions to Bring Out This Week]
Is this place filling my energy, or taking it away?
Is the decision I made helping my energy?
